Help: short shifter hitting.

Hey guys im having a little bit of an issue hopefully someone will have a resolution... I installed a short shifter and at the 45% reduction I encountered the normal situation mentioned in the b&m shifter instructions of the cable rubbing on the shifter housing, but when shifting into 1st 3rd or 5th it hits the bottom part of the body itself and will not go into gear ... has anyone encountered this problem before?

Are u sure u installed it properly and fitted at the correct position. I once bought an aftermarket shifter and needed to modify my gear console plate.

yeah its installed correctly it works perfect at the 15% reduction but when we moved it down it hits that part at the bottom. If i shim the shifter housing up would that effect anything?

I had this problem with my B&M on the shortest setting and had to cut a small hole in the body with my dremel to make room. There was another layer of metal under it so don't think it is going to be an open hole to the ground and be nervous about making the hole.

would it damage anything if i smashed it down with a hammer instead of removing the piece?

update I took the aluminum bushings and put them on the bottom side instead of the top which raised the whole shifter housing just enough for it to shift properly and now everything works smoothly. If this is a bad thing and someone knows something I dont if it effects anything by raising it please let me know but as far as it goes its shifting smooth and short.

i think if you look up the link about the ebay ss install it will show what part of the tower u have to cut out of the bottom where the shifter hits.

i think it's a must to install shims under the shifter housing to raise it so cables not touching anything.at least when i purchased the buschur short shifter 4 shims was included in that kit.

the spacers are suppose to go on the bottom. were you placing them at the top? lol i just did this same thing last night and had the same problem. i installed it over 4 years ago at 15% and last night i changed it to 45% and encountered the same problem. after reading the instructions a few times i finally understood the spacers go in the bottom of the shifter housing not the top. only problem is i dont have the original bushings so the bolts go right through the housing and dont hold it. some big washers on the bolts would keep them from going through but i didnt have any. i just took a hammer and pushed down the area it rubbed on. all fine now. although i think with the spacers on the bottom the the housing will provide a better shift feel as opposed to the top. maybe ill get washers later on and try it the right way
