I thought this upgrade deleted both of those center bearing sections? So which one is the one that is still kept? Unless one of those is something else, but when I peeked it looked like two bearing sections.

The center bearing mid part of the car is retained to join the 2 shafts.. It going to absorb some shock which is helpful also..
