i dont think you can run a usb cable that long without attenuation problems...you would need some sort of a powered usb cable...but if it was just a joke teehee

I was kind of curious if I could get the software to work on mac osx and am still unsure. I'll continue to dig at the forums over at openecu.org, until I get an answer...

There is not a port to OS X (even intel) yet. I've discussed the possibility with Colby already though. As it stands, the driver we need (the D2XX) has not yet been ported to darwin. There is a VCP driver, but I only got it working yesterday. I posted a directions on using it on the openecu forums.

I've also ported freediag to OS X so I can use it for OBD-II. However, the apple IOkit framework won't allow baudrates below 50, thus the obd-ii handshaking fails.

Nothing has been done yet to modify the function of the ECU, only to adjust parameters... so currently no you cannot do that..

However, I did suggest this idea to "poke information" into the octane trim, to force it to go to either one or the other map.. At the least that function can be used to restore a "Cranky ecu" to its high-octane map, another use would be to force using one or another of the maps, however that might remove your margin of safety that it offers..

In other words.. Time will tell, since their currently disassembling the code to find all the useful functions, and data, at some point they will be able to add or modify functionality. aka "code hacks"

You can run a PC emulator app, install a copy of windows XP or 2000, just make sure the emulator has USB passthrough so it sees USB devices plugged in..

I actually tried this on a machine (Windows server 2003) running VMWare, which has a USB passthrough and it works fine. Haven't tried a MAC running softPC or anything like that..

Get virtual pc or whatever to use it on a mac machine. NO garuntees the drivers will work but hey it is worth a shot.

Excellent idea Al, even for the tinkerer, a $50 solid base from which to tweak is most definitely worth its weight in gold.

If virtual PC creates a 100% compatible emulation environment, and it can passthrough USB (so it can detect plug and play devices) then it should work if you install Windows XP on the VirtualPC
