My wing getting stripped :D
Well I had a close friend of mine sand down the paint off my wing, and shoot it with 4 coats of clearcoat. He made sure to sand the actual wing surface as well, as it was yellowing in the major heat we have here. Here's a pic of it, right when he was nearly done sanding. Tommorow he's going to shoot it with 4 coats of clearcoat, woot.
Lemme know what you guys think. The reason for stripping it is that I'm going to be getting a CF trunk pretty soon, and wanted the whole CF wing look for it too.

That is awesome! Taking off the paint to show the cf! I didn't think you could sand on cf, thought it would scratch. I was thinking of getting a new clear coat on my cf hood, cause the clear coat on it is messed up, would it be possible to sand it down to put a new clear coat on? Pretty much what he is oding then? Without damaging the cf?

How can we do this ourselves? I dont understand WHY stupid Mitsu has the paint something over CF. IT'S CF!!!! Not some polymers or fiberglass. luckily they didnt paint the MR wing.
Can ur close friend start providing a service to strip down the paint? I mean, we can do a swap. Swap the stock wing for the nice stripped wing.

Mitsu paints the carbon because carbon composites do not like sunlight. I work in the aerospace industry (structures engineer, mainly metal though) and when I bought my Evo I talked to our composite engineers about the naked airfoil. They were really surprised to see it. They recommended I either get it painted or be sure to keep UV protection on it. As areet stated, he’s getting it stripped due to yellowing. That is just cosmetic. After enough time (likely longer than the average life of the car) the structural strength of the part can suffer. Still, I think what you have done to that one looks awfully nice and would go fantastic on a black Evo. I hope it all turns out for you. Just keep a good UV wax on it.
