I think that there is something wrong with the whole picture...I mean he was quick to call his cop buddy to take over rather than any other cop. were they drunk or something? Seems kinda strange how they cleared the scene so quick and not even with a traffic cop.

Just trying to "straighten" this story out before you start telling it to your insurance company or others and make youself look bad.

I would get the estimate repair cost from Mitsubishi then go to any good body/repair shop & let them deal with the insurance because most of the repair shops will handle this case very good..they can get extra money from the insurance for you as long as you will give them a little & buy all the replacecment parts from the board, ebay or somewhere instead of buying parts directly thru Mitsubishi, this way you will save a lot of it, & even you pay the shop to put them on & fix the body, you might still be able to have a 1 or 2 thousands in your pocket....since no matter what, your insurance will go up anyway!! So get as much money as you can & upgrade every parts you think that need to be replaced.

Get a copy of the police report.
Get your story straight, write it down and memorize it. (Both you and your girlfriend)
Make sure you know exactly what street you were on and what direction you were going.
I would also take pictures of the area where it happened, preferably at the same time of night to show the conditions (sprinklers)
This just sounds weird. Why were they stopped? Were they parked in front of a house? Were there any street lights on this road? Did you or your girlfriend notice if his tail/head lights were on? What do you think the aproximate value of his car was?
Technically it’s your fault, but I would still tell my insurance agent it could have been a set up. They aren't going to investigate it unless you bring it to there attention.
Next time give someone a call, preferably someone with a cool head. People can get so excited at an accident and the facts start to get fuzzy. It always helps to have someone with a cool head around to take down info, and notice little things that you miss.
Plus if there are no injuries and no fluids on the road a police officer will just take info for a basic accident report and clear the scene.
Hope I helped a little
Ben

I think you were looking down longer than you think. It just doesnt make sense that this guy came out of nowhere.
