Hand polished stock upper intercooler pipe

I've been cleaning my car for the past few days to get it ready for Tobayfest, so while I was cleanin' my engine bay, i noticed that it looks kinda dull, nothing to really bring it out, its all stock looking except for the bov and intake. No oil cap or radiator or anything.

So since i'm kinda low on $$$ I decided that i'd try and polish my upper intercooler pipe by hand and see how it comes out, hopefully it'll add to my engine bay


And well... here are the fruits of my labor

Didn't even take long either, only about an hour an a half of non-stop polishing.

So what you all think?

Very nice! Up to what grit sandpaper did you use? How long did it take you?

Man I just took a brillo pad to mine with some metal polish.. then polished it with a towel.

It doesn't look as bling as the ones above but it shined it up pretty nice. I'd say you need some very light grit sandpaper for the rough spots.

Here's a basic write up:


What you need:
a lot of sand paper, polishing compound (you can use mothers mag and aluminum polish), and a couple of rags.

Start with 320grit sand paper, get it all smooth, from there work your way up to about 2000grit paper. Finally apply 2-3 coats of aluminum polish, work it in good, and there u go

even wet sand if u want with the 2000 grit and u can use a dremel buffer if u go crazy lol

i wet sanded with the 2000 grit, made a big difference heh.

looks nice. get the silicone rubber hoses (black) to replace the mesh-style factory ones and it'll be perfect.
