The superior setup is an alpine head unit (much better quality the others mentioned to begin with) with the exclusive IPod Link. This is the only aftermarket digital interface. I have 40GB searchable through my head unit, while my unit is charged... no rca jacks or riging to get it to work... Definately worth the money for long road trips

That's probably way too expensive set up for him. Ideal, but pricey. How is that iPod interface anyways? I've read the iPod software on many decks are really laggy and limited vs controlling the iPod itself.

I have a sony deck (knob volume) connected to a 10 disc changer that plays mp3 discs (10 discs full of mp3s...) and it displays by folder and by song. For me, it's the next best thing to ipod

yeh, that's not bad... changer would be bit too much for my trunk. my battery and other craps in there...
I'm looking toward the jvc arsenal. seems like a good unit and moderately priced.
unfortunately I couldn't find a place that sells aiwa cdc mp3 anymore.
That was so perfect. cheap, played good, folder by folder, etc.

FWIW,
I have this unit: http://www.crutchfield.com/S-RNuj2ww...00&I=020DXZ655
The aluminum trim is a nice match for the stock steering wheel, and the multi-color display can be adjusted to match the stock gauges fairly closely. I found it for close to $200.

yeh, i've been doing that and looking at crutchfield.
On ebay, it's usually used and I really don't want an used player.
yeh, I'm not looking for no innovate cheap mp3 player.
I think I'll be going with JVC arsenal, but the alpine unit is very tempting. I always wanted an alpine unit.
then again, there is the Eclipse unit that's oversized that I loved for the longest time.
