ok .. here it is ....
i spend about 5 days to complete including time for paint to cure ..
but i wished i would've spend more time on these.. the next time if i had to re-do it .. i'll know and i guess the process would be much simpler ..
ok .. so here is how i went about this
buy - caliper paint - high heat ... 3-4 black, 2-3 red and 2 krylon clear coat and 2 primer total of $60 .. and i think using 600 grid sandpaper would be ideal .. i used 1000 grid .. my forearm look like popeye .. LOL
take the tires off .. its much easier to work with bare rim
sand the entire rim including the enkei name and symbol
wash off rim and dry
primer - 2-3 coats - let it dry 1 day
sand to smooth out primer
black - 3-4 coats - let it dry 1 day
mask off the part of the wheel that you dont want to paint the lip color .. take your time, spin the wheel as you go around .. and cover everything to prevent over spray
red - 2-3 coats - let it dry 1 day
remove all masking tape .. stand back and enjoy your own master piece !
clear coat - 3-4 coats - let it dry 1 day ...
put tires back on and drive around and show them off and take some pictures ...
FYI, if the weather is crappy while doing this ( humid, rain ) .. make sure its fully cured, if you need to wait 2 days for each process .. thans its worth it ...and also if you can use a hair dryer, but from afar, not too close.. it will help the process.. but make sure you have somewhere to store these while the paint cures and less dust areas .. and also, let it dry for 1-2 hrs before each coat depending on weather ..
light coat - spray from 18" or more ( primer, 1st couple of color & clear coat )
heavy coat - spray from 8-10" away ( last coat of color and clear coat )
spray in one direction as i was being told by a buddy
good luck guys ! hope this helps !
and thanks everyone for enjoying my project !
