Im sorry, but you are incorrect. It makes no difference what color you paint your intercooler, the very presence of PAINT on the aluminum fins will most definitely cause the fins to be less efficient at radiating heat in to the atmosphere... 1st year physics.

If mfgrs are selling balck intercoolers (like oil coolers) then they are anodized. Anodization is a chemical process and does not detract from the aluminum's cooling ability.

You COULD actually remove the intercooler, and let it soak in a tub filled with water and RIT brand DYE. The dye wouldn't affect the aluminum as bad as paint.

Yes! It is not uncommon at all for an intercooler and endtanks to be anodized black to keep attention away from the car and help it maintain a sleeper appearance. A very light coat of paint on the core and endtanks is also another option, usually much cheaper and easier than anodizing, with a negligible performance loss.

This is from turbobygarrett.com in the FAQ section
How the hell can your car be a sleeper..Everyone on the face of the universe knows the evo has turbo and has a front mount...It is not a car that comes all motor and you are trying to disguise the fact that you have turbo..

NIce i like the idea. Sparying it lightly does not effect efficiency. Now if you use Behr paint it and roll it on it would affect it .

come on now guys...

a light coat of flat black spray paint will make VERY little difference one way or another. interestingly enough, a friend of mine with a 10sec daily driven mirage who used to work on vw's, said black paint was sprayed on the air cooled cylinder heads to encourage heat dissipation.

btw, garrett got the idea from me.

I have raced a couple of Camaros who were like "what is that? A lancer Evo. What is that?" They did not know it was turbo because my intercooler was black.
