ipod player for evo....56k beware
most of you have probably seen this out there and maybe even in other evo's but i didn't find it on here so i just thought i'd post up some pics and my opinions. it's called the harmon kardon drive-n-play for ipods.
There's 3 parts to the system...a display LCD, the control knob, and the "brain" which is connected into your HU and spliced into your electrical system. you can choose to use a wireless transmitter to send the signal to your HU but its easier to wire it directly...plus the transmitter is extra so why bother? you control your ipod through the external knob then read the results on a lil lcd that you can install pretty much anywhere, which means you dont have to look down to pick a song and accidentally drive off the road, which i nearly have done a couple of times with my old setup...
EDIT: I can't seem to put pics in my post and have them stay up so they're as attachments
(1)the control knob is very similar to an ipod's wheel so picking a playlist, artist, wutever is really easy
(2)you can put the knob anywhere you like but this was the easiest place, given the fact that we don't have a lot of room...but the gray of the knob matches the center console so it works.....you can put the lcd screen anywhere you want, but i wanted to keep it somewhat on the DL, so i mounted it here:
(3)what it looks like at night...
(4)and this is the center console in the dark...i like this lil blueish tinge it gives off....and the double din kit is courtesty of Orbital performance systems, for more info check out the link in my profile
just in case you're wondering, you can choose to have the lcd and blue knob turn off after 10 secs, i just like having it on all the time. i got it for $165 shipped off ebay. circuit city is charging 200 for it but i didn't have a problem getting it offline. I did however have to get circuit city to install it since I'm not very good at audio install, or any other kind of install for that matter.....but all in all, a very cool setup and it means ill never have to worry about burning another cd or looking down all the time to find a song on my ipod. if you have any questions or want more pics, shoot me a pm or comment on here, enjoy!
p.s. i haven't figured out a way to play video from the ipod on the aftermarket DVD HU's.....has anyone figured out how to do it? i can't imagine it's too hard, maybe an aux cable from the harmon brain to the HU?
