Repairing Carbon Fiber

How practical is it to fix a cf lip? i hit a pothole today and it chipped the clear pretty good and ripped some mounting points. overall the thing is still in one piece, just scratched and chipped so i may end up painting it tarmac blk to match the car if i have to, but i'd rather try to get this fixed i assume a body shop could just sand down the clear and respray it?

Good question, as I did the exact same thing on my Varis CF lip late last year. Mine is still on the car even though it's in bad shape.

I think mine looks worse than it does because the cracks are being held by 3m clear bra

Yes a good body shop should have no problem doing that had my wing done turned out better than from factory good luck.

depends on if the cf is cracked. if it is, i don't think it can be fixed without overlaying the whole thing in cf again.. if it is just scratched, a wet sand and clear coat should do the trick. if it is cracked at just the mounting spots (not visible) it can probably be fiberglassed back into shape and painted in just that area...

I'd make sure the body shop has good experience with carbon fiber first

cracked a cf lip on my civic, didnt look to bad but did crack the cf, couple days later was cruising a back road about 100mph and the thing fell apart into three or four big chunks (after i ran it over!) just a heads up incase the cf is cracked i would repair it before going "over the speed limit" my .02 cents

thanks for the input everyone... i'll probably hit up a body shop in the next couple days and get some before and after pics

yeah, that's the only thing, i don't know of any shops in the area
