JDM MR headlights into a non-ssl EVO
Hi,
My front end got messed up and im going to be buying a new set of headlights. I want the JDM MR (HID w/fogs) instead of my HID and fogless 05 GSR lamps.
I've searched and searched and searched and I've found nothing, so Im starting my own thread.
WHO HAS INSTALLED JDM MR LIGHTS INTO A NON-SSL EVO?
There are 3 lights in the JDM MR lights.
1. low beams
2. high beams
3. foglights
1.- The low beams require different bulbs. This requires installing and HID kit with D2S bulbs. The problem is that I am not sure if my headlights will be adjustable. The HID evos come equipped with a switch in which you determine the angle of your headlights. Can anyone confirm that I will be able to easily adjust these headlights manually??
2.- High beams should clip right in, again no problem.
3.- Foglights. The GSR/RS have a different fusebox than the HID MR or SSL. This will prevent me from wiring in the stock switch, relay, etc for the fogs. I don't think this will be a huge problem to install but was wondering if anyone has wired them directly to the running lights, or wired them in with a switch.
YEAHHH, THAT'D BE GREEAATT.

i know of a guy who did so on Socalevo.net. I'm also running OEM HID set-up on my GSR. Both of us had a guy do some rewiring on our stock harness to run the HID set-up. Cost me about $180 for the stock HID system.

i'm also wondering about this too.
also, what exactly is the difference between the non-hid jdm headlights and the hid jdm headlights? why is the non-hid $699 and the hid one $1799? i dont see why there is such a huge price difference. i plan to swap out my 03 headlights for the jdm, but i heard the non-hid jdm headlights need the hid balasts or something. any insights on this? thanks.

OEM HID kits are expensive as hell. They are way higher quality than the aftermarket ones you buy off of ebay for 200 bucks. The projectors are also different to give the HID bulbs a sharp cutoff to keep from blinding people. That all accounts for the huge difference in price.

thanks dcorn.
i just checked z1 auto for the headlights. it says on their website that the jdm evo 8 mr headlights are a direct fit with evos with hids, but a minor foglight mod is required ($699). i think going this route is a lot cheaper than buying the hid evo 9 black chrome headlights for $1799.

JDM MR 9 non-hid - 700
JDM MR 9 HID - 1800
Since the 9's are new they are more expensive, simple as that. If there was a JDM MR 8 non-hid headlights they would be less expensive than the hid ones that go for 700. Like all new JDM parts, if you want to be the first to have it, youll pay accordingly. I imagine they do not have too many sets of those for sale, which is one of the reasons they are charging much more for them. The physical difference between them is the same as the difference between the SSL and the NON-SSL headlights.
THE MAIN THING IM TRYING TO FIGURE OUT HERE IS IF I WILL BE ABLE TO MANUALLY ADJUST MY HEADLIGHTS BECAUSE MY CAR DOESN'T HAVE HID

My little brother tried this and he said that he was able to do everything except for the in cabin adjustment, due to the fact that the motor that does the adjustments was not in the headlights. I dont know where you would get that motor at either.
He ended up just doing an HID kit, and adjusting it that way.
