I love the 13b/20b however all the general stereotypes of a V8 don't fit when using one in an FD, it gets better gas mileage than the 13b (T-56 helps) and i think the car has a more solid feel for handling w/ the weight more spread out instead of one hunk of cast-iron...see below for an excerpt from Hinsons F.A.Q. section. I do feel like it is kinda an "easy way out" from the hell that is apex seals, however after owning the car and driving it daily and driving a few single turbo RX-7s, i've come to appreciate my car more and more.
Suave--ya man the tails have got to go, they don't even have clear on them so they are pretty pasty, but the paint itself is purdy nice, just unfinished.
Money Pit--the ITR has been owned by at LEAST 4 people that i know of, and it only had 42k miles when i sold it....only reason i got it was because i traded my evo for the ITR and an 05 ScionXA (sold both, made money)
donmeca-- Hinson charges ~$9k for everything you need minus the engine and tranny, they will source one for you or you can bring your own in
Alexander--yep i'm on honda-tech but i dont spend much time there (no more honda)
kimletrim--yeah i'm selling the FD right now actually, i posted it up ~48 hours ago on craigslist and have already had 2 guys come check it out, seven guys call and one verbal offer on it @ $23k....lots o money.
GRV and errebody else--
*all below information pulled from Hinsons F.A.Q. section*
How much will the car weigh?
The aluminum GM LS1 and LS6 engines are extremely light power plants. With the complete removal of the 13B and the sequential turbo assembly, the project car's final weight is less than the total gross vehicle weight of a stock Mazda RX7. The final weight of the car is listed below. The car weighed 2,831lbs with a full Touring interior, sunroof, complete Bose sound system including the "Sound Wave," and a 1/4 tank of gas.
LF: 746
RF: 677
Total Front: 1,423 lbs
LR: 678
RR: 733
Total Rear: 1408 lbs
How will it handle?
The converted car handles and behaves the same as a factory car. The shop car is outfitted with aftermarket struts and front and rear sway bars for performance higher than that of the stock Mazda Touring suspension. Our customers should expect their vehicles to handle just as well as it did prior to the install.
How fast is the car?
Depending on the level of engine modification, our customers should expect even a stock LS1 conversion to perform better than a C5 Corvette Z06. All of this for less than 1/3 the cost. Most of our stock LS1 RX7s will run between an 11.9-12.5 second 1/4 mile pass. The range is based on track conditions and driver ability.
