Rich you are 100percent correct. They cant or they will be in some serious trouble. Pre accident condition is the goal of any body shop that is doing a repair, but to modify an OEM part??? I cant see any shop doing that, its a huge liability. IF you all can get the JDM rear bumpers how come no one has tried to get a JDM re bar(re-enforcement bar)????? Seems to me they should be sold together anyhoo.

The guys at this shop are good people, and do very quality work.

If someone gets their OEM part modified, I would imagine they are aware of the potential repecussions(sp). I wonder if a waiver would be a good idea.

That was the only thing holding me back from purchasing the bumper.
Very interested.

Oh please do not think I am doubting their skill cause I am not in any way. In fact it would not suprise me if their rebar is in fact stronger then the OEM one. Its just that body shops do not want to take that risk. I have been in auto body for 11 going on 12 years as a painter, so I have dealt with this before. I do not know of any shop that would modify something like a rebar and then reinstall it back on a car, whether the customer asked for it or not, its just a big NO NO in the body shop field. The rebar is a very important part and NONE of you should be driving around with out one, no matter if you have the JDM bumper on it. You need to have one. Its a saftey issue.

Right, instead of modifying the beam, they just remove it...how is that better? If they didn't make you sign a limit of liability waiver for not having a crash beam, why would they for modifying the beam per customer's request?

Anyway...I do plan on having a shop modify my rear beam to fit the jdm bumper, but i doubt the styrofoam piece will fit the jdm bumper in any decent way, and methinks that is the crucial piece for protecting your bumper from low speed collisions (5-10mph)...I can't say whether the actual beam protects rear passengers; that would be worth it if so...

LOL oops sorry, my job in a body shop has my terms a lil confused I guess. Usually when people say "Crash beam" they are talking about a rebar. My bad guys. I thought you all were talking about a rebar. I apologize. See I can admit when I am wrong anyhoo I was just trying to help. Later

How much of a difference would an impact be w/o that bar? I thought it was a 5mph bar.

My appologizies if someone already in the other thousand threads about the JDM bumper but without the rear crash bar and foam support how well does the bumper sit on the car? is there any noticeable sagging or does it move easily when touched or when washing. The reason I ask is because I plan on buying one as soon as I find a vendor other then GruppeS and would hate to get it and have problems with it.

Thanks for any info in advance!

Joe
