JUN BL Exhaust Review and Pictures! *New Pics*
Semi-long, but informative, so be prepared!
Well, it was time for my first mod for my Evo...well first semi-big mod. I was getting sick of not being able to hear the car while I was driving it, so I thought it was time to purchase an exhaust. After lots of browsing around on vendor websites and EvoM, I decided to go with the JUN BL system offered through EvoDave. https://www.evolutionm.net/forums/sh...5&page=1&pp=15
It fit all categories I was interested in; price, quality, and stainless steel. I picked up the FULL 3 inch system with 3 inch testpipe. I also bought an o2 sensor simulator on eBay to rid myself of the dreaded CEL that would show its ugly face if not counter-acted.
You can find this here: http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/ws/eB..._promot_widget
I sent Dave a PM when I had decided on my purchase after reading his thread discussing the system. He immediately called me and we talked for a while about the system, payment, etc., and just bull****ted for a bit. Everything shipped out right after labor day and I received my package 2 days after the order was put through.
When the package arrived I opened it up and right away I knew I had made the right decision in my purchasing; everything was packed so nice and tight...there was no room for anything to poke through its box. Extensive bubble-wrapping was involved to wrap up the great packing job. The welds couldn't be better and the V-Bands look wonderful. Everything is so nice and shiny!
Install was later that night...the hardest part of the install was removing the stock system; which was hardly a chore in itself because of how new my car is and how easy the bolts were to remove. We had to run to the hardware store to pick up some longer downpipe to testpipe bolts because I wasn't confident on the length of the stockers. the V-Bands couldn't be easier to figure out...by far the most efficient way to go when designing an exhaust system! After owning a V-Band system I will NEVER buy a slip-fit or conventional clamp style system again. The testpipe bolted up perfectly to the downpipe with my newly bought bolts, and from there it was a breeze to align everything else and just tighten the V-Band clamps and be set. Couldn't be easier!
The butt-dyno felt maybe 10 whp faster...especially in the upper ranges of the powerband. Definitely a worth-while mod. And this system does seem to make as much power as the big name systems, for half the price and twice the build quality. How can you beat that?!
And the part you've all been waiting for...the sound. It sounds absolutely great! It emits a very deep rumble at idle, and between idle and 2.5K it almost sounds like my buddies' RX-7...just fantastic! If you've ever heard an FD, you can definitely relate to what I'm explaining. Up top is raspy, loud, and just plain raw. Sounds excellent with the testpipe. Overall it sounds amazing!
One tip for all future installers: Bolt up the testpipe first, then move to the extreme rear of the car and hang the muffler. Then mount up the mid-pipe and secure the back end with the muffler pipe and then the one connecting the testpipe. It really helps if you have a buddy helping you out to hold the pipes while you line up and secure everything.
Very happy with this system and would definitely recommend it and Dave to anyone who is in the market to make their Evo faster...oh wait, I think that includes 99% of the people on this board! Thanks a lot Dave!
Finally some pictures..didn't think I was gonna leave you guys hangin', did ya?
Excuse the poor quality of the first two, camera phone ftw!
Hangs very nicely...even angled for that JDM look, Yo!

Interested in how the ebay CEL fix worked. Ive just got the 2 spark plug anti-fowlers and the previous owner never had any problems with it, but my CEL keeps coming on even after removing and cleaning out the fix. Very nice exhaust BTW. Ive seen a clip of it running around here somewhere. Very nice sounding and not nearly as loud as my Buschur racing TBE.
