Wingles $800+ to fill the holes and respray (lol)

I have gone wingless, but figured I'd do the job properly, and fill the holes and spray teh trunk.

First body shop I went to quoted, me $800 to weld the holes and respray the trunk (and they claimed I'd need to have the 3/4 panels also resprayed to match.

The giuy spent a while digging around on his computer, even told me my wing was $1,500 from the dealer. I get a feeling he found out how much a trunk was a took a couple of hundred off the price.

Man body shops always give me a bad feeling.

BTW, anyone recommend a good body shop in Monmouth county NJ?

A rs trunk from the dealer is about $350 and a good body shop can spray it for well under $ 300 .

Unless you have custom paint I dont see how they need to "match" the color by painting the quarter panels also.

what about getting a lancer trunk? i've read that those will fit? i'm sure somewhere there's a lancer who wants an Evo trunk with an Evo wing on it on his lancer....this way u could have a wingless lancer trunk with some extra cash from the trade

(all this assuming the lancer trunk will actually fit)

just get a carbon fiber trunk for $600 and don't get it painted if your car is black or gray.

I almost laughed at loud at the guy, but then I figured he was the first, so I'll just move onto the next.

First thing he said when he walked out to look at the car was "sharp car, is it new" and I knew I was in for trouble.

Graphite Grey is the color.

I am surely tempted by a cf trunk, and then an oem cf hood - thought it might balance nicely. Not sure if you can get an RS in that flavor, or if the lancers came in it, looked on ebay but there's zip.

I'll hit up a couple of other local shops (one of the joys of living in jersey there's a body shop on every corner). Thanks for the offers and suggestion, if the local ones don't pan out I'll take some of you up on the offers.

Wing goes on ebay next week sometime (now I know how much it is and the fact that it'll sit in my basement for the next 30 years and gather dust.) ;-)

ok first lets start with welding up the holes and getting it ready for paint. in order for the trunk to be straight you would need to grind the welds down and straighten the metal because it is going to warp when you weld it. then to finish it out you need to use a little body filler. then comes primer, and alot more sanding. in your case with the gray some shops dont feel comfortable tring to match the color so they would rather blend the quarter panels to ensure a good color match. depending on the labor rate of the shop and the amount of time they think it would take will determine how much the total is going to be. my shop charges 48.50 per hour and i would figure about 8 to 12 hours plus costs of the paint. paint and materials just a rough estamate would be 100 to 150 dollars
48.50@8hrs=$388
@10hrs=$485
+100/150 =488 up to 635 (+ new emblems)
so the shop you went to might be a little higher but the labor cost could be alot more in your area. ask what the labor rate is and ask around town for a good body shop. a good shop is worth paying more because a bad paint job will make your car look like crap.
