This gold is the third time I've painted mine. I've tried gunmetal, bronze and finally gold. I've tried different paint each time. The gunmetal was a custom mixed color from the local autobody place. The bronze was Duplicolor wheel paint. And the Gold was rustoleum. The rustoleum hs held up the best and has looked the best the longest. So painting the wheels is cheap and can be done to look really nice, but I think powder coating is definitely the way to go if you can. I always planned on powder coating but painting them was a cheap way to try out different colors until I found the one I wanted.
There's a local PC place that charges $50/wheel to sandblast and PC any color. A co-worker with an evo just had his done it black and they turned out great. Several friends of mine in our Land Cruiser club have done their wheels too, and they look awesome so I'll have mine done in the next month or so.
