Polish for Carbon Fiber

Guy i would like to know how to polish the CF Hood and CF Trunk. As in what to use and what not to use. Also even if its possible or not? Plus my trunk as in of my car has some minor scratches.
Looking forward to hearing from the show & shine pros...

I simply wash and wax my CF hood ....... Once oxidation built up on my CF hood I took it to a paint and body shop where they color sanded/buffed out the hood for a $100. It looked like new!!!!! Better than new I would say.....

I used the new turtle wax "ICE" or better yet go buy megiuars gold wax.
The ICE is ok stuff and leaves no white residue on plastic parts, etc..
And also, only use microfiber cloths on your car.[esp. black]

And rub in a straight line, dont go in a circular motion when you put it on and take it off.

Swirl marks suck, on any car, especially if it's on a black car.

That "ICE" sh*t sucks..

Treat carbon parts just like the rest of the car. Unless you have dry carbon parts, which I doubt, they're cleared just like your paint.

Same steps as always.

yea, i tried the ice stuff, it was ok. it was easy so it's good for a quickie.
I normally use Meguiars stuff, but figured i'd try it.

Back on topic:
Buksh - Definately invest in alot of microfiber cloths.
well worth it.

Most aftermarket Carbon Fiber pieces do NOT have a clear coat on them. What you see on most of them is a gel coat. The gel coat is a coating they put down in the machine so the carbon fiber does not stick to it when its pressed into the shape of whatever it is. When it comes out it has the "glossy" look to it, they let it cool and ship it.

VERY few companies apply a layer of clear. My recommendation would be to take it to a GOOD body shop that has painted / cleared CF before and that knows how to prep it and spray it with clear. If the gel is not removed clear coat or paint will not stick.

On all of the other cars I have built I have done that and its worked out really good and has been flawless. If you do not do this or if you do not keep it properly waxed the gel does tend to fade over time making the hood look like total crap. I have a very friends who experienced that.

As for care and/or polishing..... I just used normal wax and applied a few coats. I used the Meguiars gold class until the new NXT wax came out.

i would try meguires scratch x by hand with a meguires applicatorm, followed up by a good wax. here is a good link to show the results (page 2 and 3 for the carbon fiber hood). http://archive.meguiarsonline.com/fo...?threadid=2633
before using read up on the proper technique for applying
