Modified USDM Crash bar for JDM IX rear bumper [pics]
So I got my JDM IX bumper today thanks to Gruppe-S.
I don't particularly like the idea of "removing" the factory crash bar cause even at low speeds if someone hits you it'll push the trunk area in and cause some unnecessary sheetmetal damage.
So i modified it.
Cut the mounts off of it, removed the flange from the mounts and welded the flange onto the crash bar itself. Fits very tight but it does fit. bolts right on.

Did the sides of the crash bar have to be modified? Looks clean. Any way to point out where the flanges are that you modified? I want a JDM rear but am curious on how to modify the bumper. I appreciate the pics and the info. Thanks for posting it up.

Once you have the crash bar off, you'll see. It is simply a straight bar with 2 legs/flanges on it.
I fabricate my own stuff at home. TIG welder, metal cutting tools etc.
I don't send stuff out anymore. Too many bad experiences. I prefer to do it at home.
There is still a small gap between the crash bar and the sheetmetal of the trunk. So at low speed impacts, it'll still protect the trunk area from caving in.

I think there are a few people who "offer" them. at like $350+
And again, it doesn't defeat the purpose of the crash bar. It's the same crash bar but shortened. Same mounting points, bolt in.
A MIG would be much easier and faster than a TIG. You'll have to fill some spaces.
