I just came across my own thread while searching for info on going wingless and what people use to fill the holes on their trunk. Then I noticed there were a lot of replys way after the thread was made that I never even knew about.
I love how so many people don't realize this was a stock Evo wing. Yes most evos came with the large wing, some (RS's) came wingless, and others came with this low lancer wing as an option.
And those that say removing it is destroying the car are nuts. "Cut its ***** off? Might as well be a regular lancer?" Seriously are there that many ricers that own evos? Any performance enthusiast knows that the car is not made by the wing Yes it has a purpose at higher speeds but guess what I'm not someone doing over 80mph or racing it on a road course every weekend (or any weekend for that matter)
Maybe the ricers quoted above bought this car bought it for its giant wing, but I bought it for its giant brakes, and giant horsepower potential and giant history behind the motor. I can go on about why I bought this car and not one of the reasons I have has to do with the looks of it. If I was buying for looks I would have got a an awd 2gb DSM. I wanted reliability/warranty that comes with a new car, the convenience of 4 doors and something with AWD that I could drive year-round in any weather. I get all of those plus the performance.
Anyways I bumped this thread because I will soon be updating with wingless pics as I try that out for the summer. Also wanted to provide what I have MPG wise from large wing to small wing...
"Miles traveled," "gallons used," "Avg MPG"
MPG OEM "3573.4" "165.407" 21.60368062
MPG low wing "16795.3" "749.073" 22.42144624
As you can see it is noticeable, but nothing to brag about. I've saved myself somewhere around $100 in 10 months over just shy of 17K miles, but I'm still curious to see what will happen once I go wingless. And yes, I know my data can be viewed as being skewed being that I don't have an equal amount per sample but eff you if you're going to nitpick

good info man, dont listen to people on this forums when it comes to LOOKS, if its technical ok but do as you wish with your car, at the end of the day who is paying for it, driving it, and looking at it all the time you are, so if you like how it looks or what you got keep it have fun and have a nice day

word. have the low rise wing myself.
im very accustomed to mine, and the big wing just looks plain goofy as hell to me. specially considering im 30 years old, rolling in a car like this in the first place, loud etc, then have a huge parkbench on the back.. cant do it....
