i have MANY little black dots on my rims in the corners of each spoke. i stoped cleaning my rims because it was so agravating i got tired of looking at it so i left my rims alone. TILL NOW. i have only tryed it for a second because my friend showed it to me. and we tryed it out. a little elbow grease and BAM that stuff came right off. so i did 1 wheel complete and its back to new again. so im doing the rest. here is what i used. so funny its a everyday tire and rim cleaner.

what i did was i sprayed it on A COLD RIM and let it sit for 5 min. then got a small cloth rag and it got the rims clean. may have to do it 2 times but it works.

do not get it on your rotors. for some reason the 1st time you brake like pulling out of your driveway u may not stop till it burns off.

i recommend removing the rim and doing the work.

 

You can use wheel acid on most BBS wheels. Thats your best bet. IT WILL most likely destroy the paint on the caliper, so do it off the car. Or brings the wheels to a detail shop and ask them to clean them with wheel acid.

HA! I have to laugh. I went out today right after all these posts and bought EXACTLY that and....works just like you said. Let it soak...lots of rubbing the stuff in and BAM works like a champ. I got 3 year old brake dust infested rims back to 95%. NICE. Took me about an hour a rim at least though

Simple green didnt even come CLOSE to the results with this stuff.

 

eagle one wheel cleaner works wonders for me and my cars...... I would give that a try

 

well... getting black stuff off first and then use a brush to get in and clean the rim better more often so it doesnt happen again....

From a wash-by-wash basis, I've tried all the different brands of wheel cleaner and found Turtle Wax's Platinum stuff to work the best:

As a near last resort (I might try the clay bar stuff first), you could try Mr. Clean's Magic Eraser. I've never tried it on this, but the stuff works magic on just about anything. I'm not sure on what it would do to clear coat finishes, but my guess is that it would work ok.

 

also has anyone tried polish on wheels? it works for the stubborn tar and caked on brake dust. ofcourse you need to not be a noob and do the whole wheel, just the trouble spots. use light cut or 2000 grit wetsanding and no problem.

also 99% of people dont even realize u need to wax your wheels. seriously 99% of people complaining about brake dust and tar issue is really just lazy or lacking in free time. wet rag is always enough for ANY foreign material on wheels IF you clean it often.

 

I may just be cheap but I just use dawn dish soap and an old soft wash cloth and water and everything comes off just fine and easy. I just make the cloth really wet and sopay and wipe laeving the suds sit for a bit. The wheel wells are the same except I use a hard and soft bristel brush.

 

please read my post. light polish or 2000 grit wetsand will cut through that tar and wont damage the clearcoat at all... just do it only on that spot.

I use brake cleaner... yeah thats right... clean brake dust with brake cleaner... I know it sounds CRAZY... but it works.

carb & choke cleaner also works.

I used to own a 2005 GSX-R with White wheels... and brake cleaner was the ONLY way you could get those wheels clean.

And no, it wont harm the wheels Just dont drench your tires in it cause it can dry out the rubber.

 

Just use some Brake Parts spray cleaner. It works and Works Well.

You'll find a large variance in the efficacy of off the shelf wheel cleaner products. I've found like you did that the Eagle One products work very well at removing just about everything with the minimal effort. Love the stuff!

Yeesh some of the other suggestions scare me... acid? Brake parts cleaner?

 

Listen up guys, acids and sprays are the cheap way out!

1. Handwash with a microfiber pad
2. Use a quality claybar then polish to remove surface debris
3. Seal with Poorboys wheel sealant
4. Keep up maintenance and your problem is solved!

If Poorboys wheel sealant isn't in your garage then you need to do yourself a favor. It's god as far as wheels are concerned!
