Its the apr bumper. It looks just like the 9 bumper with the apr lip molded on. They sell the lip and the bumper as a whole.

I just took everything off when I painted my headlights. You can see where the plate was welded to the mesh but it really isnt that noticeable.

If you leave the bracket, it looks awful. Basically, don't do it unless you remove the bracket.

How easy is it to remove the bracket? cause from what i've read they complain about it being so hard. yet a few peopl in this thread already have clearly done it and don't seem to mention anything about PITA

I dont think it was a PITA, removing the bumper is the only problem especially if you still have the undertray on.....

Yes I removed the bracket. I actually modified a stock VIII lower grill to fit in the opening so there is no bracket & no holes from where the emblem was. It was a PITA though. It just took forever to cut & bend the grill to match the old one perfectly. I'll get some more pics for you. I didn't realize how blurry that one was.

I took off the whole thing including the back support.
You will have a couple "holes" in the mesh but its very hard to notice.

Looks much cleaner without the front emblem.

Anything is possible. I saw a thread on here about it recently. they actually cut the entire center section out of the grill area & then fiberglass it to look like the IX upper grill. You could also remove the emblem & fill in & smooth the area where it was. Either way you'll have to get the bumper repainted.
