Neutral Safety Switch for Remote Start

So I'm getting an alarm installed really soon, and I'm wondering who here has a neutral safety installed? I know Thwack has got one, I was wondering what other possibilities/methods there might be?

My alarm installer is willing to do remote start and is willing to do something mechanical since the Lancer doesn't have a neutral signal from the ECU. So... any ideas? Help me out guys.

sorry bud, havent been able to take off console to snap a pic of it yet, possibly next weekend, i'm taking a whole day to mess with car. just for your information, my car has gotten into the habit of trying to remote start by itself at 10:15 at night. it tried to do it for the 3rd time tonight... the 1st time freaked the hell outta me since it started playing the little remote start tune from across the room where i had left keys, so i know i dodnt sit on the buttons or anything. the next night I walked out to my car to find that it was already running. I was out of remote range so it didnt notify me... I think i somehow set it to start at that tiem by accident and i cant seem to turn it off.. I have to reread the manual...

moral of story, tonight when it tried to start, i had left car in gear... had it not been for the switch, the car would have gone through a wooden fence in front of it.

I wrapped my brain around the problem for a couple of weeks myself... no better alternative than the ring around the shifter... it sounds much more difficult than it is.

Hey, no problem.

Actually, dunno if you caught my other post in the other thread - I'm getting my alarm installed next weekend. The guy who's installing my alarm is curious about your setup as I told him about it - said he'd like to see it, and if possible improve on it. I dunno, were you having problems with its reliability? Would using higher quality parts do anything for it?

If you want, you're welcome to come out and join me at the alarm shop that weekend if you're not too busy. I could finally take a look at the thing and maybe the guy could improve on the design? If not, that's cool, I'll just print out the thread with the safety switch thing and forward that over to him.

As for your random remote starts at night.. yikes! Hope you get the problem fixed soon! It's just a timer issue and not an alarm issue, I hope?

Thwack...watch out. I've heard that this could be a warning that a thief is trying to start your car with some grabbed codes.

zstryder, check the other thread.

SC- i thought about that, I also thought about interference. but the only way it could be that would be if he tried to unlock it and programmed the timer instead... b/c it's been like clockwork since, and it's done it in silver spring, greenbelt and baltimore, so i doubt a thief is following me around trying new codes on my car at the exact same time every day.

besides I can rememebr i time that I sat on the remote then saw a wierd clock icon, and i was unsure of hoew to turn it off.. the icon dissapeared, but i guess the timer didnt.

but thx, I'll be on the lookout.
