yeah, i think you guys are thinking the duplicolor is two different things.

its called vinyl paint, because it is in a spray can and it has a surface bonding agent. with vinyl and non-porous surfaces, it does its best to soak into the surface with the bonding agent and dye whatever it soaks into. thats why it doesnt flake or chip off.

with cloth, there isnt a surface so the bonding agent is what makes it "rough" when it dries. and it wont flake or chip because the dye soaks into the threads of the fabric and will remain there. the surface texture is from the "paint" portion of it. so when i went over the seats with the Dobe pad, the pad looked like a dark grey when i was done and the seats felt 100 times softer, but they still looked the same and the color was still the same because of the dye.

hope that clears some stuff up. the other guy and myself used the same product. he just refers to it as spray paint, and i think that's misleading, so i described what the product actually is.

yeah, thats it.

after a day or so of drying, the dye is soaked in and all thats left on the surface is the Paint style bonding agent. so you get the dobie a little wet(just damp) and then rub the seats down a little and you'll feel the difference immediately.

your dobie will get a little grey(or whatever color you sprayed the seats) and thats when you know you've taken the unnecessary surface stuff off. then you're all set.

just dont sit there for like 5 mins on each seats scrubbing them to death. LOL

wow, that actually looks pretty good. I would do it if I have 8 seats.

this needs to be added to the DIY section

I saw this thread last week, and decided to do the same thing to my seats. I ended up painting them black instead of grey and I love how they turned out

^ awesome! good for you bro!

did you use the dobie pad to soften up the texture as well?

the dye/paint is strong as hell isnt it?!

add your input here for others to see more than one persons views.

i'm glad you tried it out!
