First race in the Evo; in-car video
Well I was finally able to try the Evo at the track on sunday.
On saturday we pulled the cylinder head to change rod bearings and rings, and worked most of the night (had customers cars to build as well) only just finished on time....10.30am sunday!!
Track: San Luis Potosi, Mexico
Driver: Chris Wilcox (me!)
Conditions: Very first time for the Evo on the track. My first time on this track in a year, and the track was very dirty as it had not been used since October...and it is a very dusty/windy environment.
Problems: Rear right-hand wheel was constantly locking; I had to really feather the brake pedal and brake distances were huge as a result - although I was braking at the limit.
Road tires with terrible grip; lateral grip wasn't too bad but longitudinal grip was dreadfull... The car was slower every lap due to the tires, but we'll have some better tires next time around.
Car has basic suspension (no coilovers) but the alignment was all over the place and we had no time to get it set right. The car was incredibly nervous; about the most nervous car I've ever driven, and I've raced Formula 3, Formula Ford etc.
I was using 17psi spike holding 14psi to redline, because the stock clutch couldn't take any more.
Anyway, we were the fastest car of the day, and here is the in-car shot of the first practice session. In qualifying I was able to improve drastically (1.5 seconds faster) on my best time in this session.
Tip: should be watched in "high quality" because the low quality is not so good!

pretty good video. You need to learn to uses the whole track. Also you're over driving the car or trying too hard. It's your first time anyway you will learn more as more track days to come.

There's a dude named Chris Wilcox that owns a bunch of Jiffy Lubes up by me. Funny. Anyways, that wastegate sounds mean! Also, you do seem to have a lot of body roll. I think its time to upgrade to coilovers. Nice run dude.
