Fortune Auto race car debut @ VIR Grassroots UTCC & more
This weekend @ Virginia International Raceway was a tough yet good one
Our sponsored car took part in the Grassroots Ultimate track car challenge and NASA ST2 Race.
For those of you that have never heard of the UTCC it is basically an annual event put on by Grassroots Motorsports magazine. Basically they take 50+ track cars from all walks of life. It is an eclectic and tough mix of competitors. Many of the cars are full on prototype cars to 4cyl N/A cars and everything in between.
Friday the car had a lot of gremlins. Initially the plan of attack was to run the car on street tires and low boost (21psi) for the warm up session and 1st session. Then for the last 2 sessions put the hammer down and crank up the boost to 30psi and run hoosiers. Well after the first warm up and session the front tire ate up through the main harness and the car was not drive-able lessening our chances in putting down some fast times.
The best time was a 210.xx and honestly that is pretty damn fast for low boost and 245 street tires. I think overall we placed 20th out of 52 cars in the UTCC. Not bad for full on cars that run in the 1:40-1:50 minute range at VIR.
Saturday the car had better luck in ST2. Whit Staples had a lack luster qualifying run but battled it out and finished third overall!!! We are very happy with the results considering this car is still in shake down mode.
Stay tuned for a video soon
Big thanks to Reid Speed, Atlantic Motorsports and most of all Whit Staples for doing a great job
