I have been using this for YEARS and it rocks. Use the clay 1st then do the waxes and enjoy. I do it about every 6 months and it always looks good. Use the spray in between coats and THEN it really looks good.

I wonder if the yellow has a clearcoat either. A friend of mine had the same problem with her red '97 Prelude. Apparantley the clear is mixed in with the base and it is one coat job. Don't know the reasoning why, but my detailer reasons it may have been because reds (and yellows) fade so quickly it would be easier to buff them back out without a clear? I am no paint expert so if there is anyone else that could shed some light on this subject it would be appreciated. Supposedly, '97 was the only year Honda used the one coat red.

From what the dealer told me, they don't offer a clearcoat anymore, at least not the protective kind. It has something to do with the paint being a plastic base. The clear actually reacts with the paint, and it releases some kind of harmful chemical. They can coat it for you when you buy it, or any dealer will protect your paint, but it was about 1k to do so after I bought the car. I like the blue, I'm gonna keep it nice and shiny. I have professional buffing compounds and buffers, so it's nice to go spend an hour and make the car look like glass. Best of luck on the paint, just another way for them to suck more money from us.

I've been using Zaino Z2 (for clear coat cars) an Z5 on my blue Evo for over 7 months. I've probably put on about 10 coats by now, and the paint looks great. I don't know if the blue paint has clear coat or not, but I'm going to keep using Z2 because it works for me.

http://www.zainostore.com is what it is but zainobros.com should forward to it..
I claybared mine then a half dozen coats of wax yada yada.. I was very impressed.
Pics of mine here: http://gallery.justchil.net/evo/
I wish I would have taken before shots.. Since then I've also done my moms Lincoln LS and my dads Tacoma... They were in bad shape because my parents wash them with dawn (removes the wax)
Took me about 8-10 hours of work to finish theirs and they now wash with zaino Both look about 2 years newer! The claybar even made area's of overspray smooth again.
edit: Since the pics above I've also bought some of zaino's plastic and tire polishes.. very nice. Also after you clean your rims try spraying on some z-6 gloss enhancer spray and wipe it off with a clean towel.. it will make them bling

When I bought my Red Evo, it already had a paint sealant on it. Can I remove this sealant so I can Zaino too? The sealant is ok, water still beads after 6 months (this summer temps were in the 120's here). I just want a better gloss. Any info on sealant stuff would be great.

I know this thread is old, but are you all sure that Red has no clearcoat on it. When waxed and polished, I don't get any
red hue on my waxing/buffing clothes.
My 1989 M3 race car has no clearcoat and is red, and that car
when waxed and polished always leaves a small amount red paint on the waxing/bufffing clothes.
My car is August 03 build.
