Polishing Stock Brembos

Hi all,

As with many males who own Evos, I like shiny things. I searched on here to no avail: can you polish the stock Evo Brembos? I know this can be done to other calipers and the domestic guys seem to like doing it to theirs, but can it be done to the Brembos? My only concern is once the caliper was stripped (either aircraft stripper or acid dip) would the finish be so rough it would take weeks to polish. If it is smooth it would seem to me you could polish it to a nice shine and use high temp clear coat to protect them. Let me know the your collective thoughts on this.

- Nate

Are the stock calipers steel or aluminum?

They are aluminum, yes you can polish them/clear coat.

What about just powdercoating them chrome? Seems like it'd be much easier.

Edit: Figures, I post that right after Carlos

it seems like an extremely high maintenance item at that point, polished or plated.

^ Why would you think they are any more high maintenance than any other caliper? I mean sure they wont gleam all the time, but I would think they would be burn resistant and look no worse dirty than a silver caliper or something like that.

Do you know how the calipers are manufactured? I guess my only concern is if its like sand casted aluminum and would have a really rough finish once the stock paint/ powder is removed.

As for powder coating them, the powder coated I used for my rims said the chrome powder works, but generally is a pain to spray and does not come out looking like real chrome. So I didn't think I'd go for that.

Once stripped they don't have a rough finish, they are actually very smooth on the halves that are seen.

That is correct the "chrome" powder coat will look nothing like real chrome, basically just a very shiny silver.
