Testing New Cams!

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=afAV5_XWmG4

We had a comment on the YouTube page about having so MANY cameras... but these are all different pulls edited together. I will take that as a compliment though, meaning they all sound consistently the same! Which is the point!

So we tested out a new set of cams we are as yet undecided on a name for. They will only be available through STM and will retail for $705.

Here is the graph to compare:

So now she is up another 40 HP! Getting sideways is not a problem. This car is almost a mirror of Ricer (minus the weight, flawlessness and obvious STM FF6765!) but my car still has the stock intake manifold where Ricer has the baller Driven Innovations... Do we need to do another test?

These are the same cams we tested in Ricer and found 80 more HP!! I will let Emery chime in on the specifics. I just take pictures

Driveability: I didn't notice a difference just going here to there, but it sounds less loud at idle, a little more peaceful in the cabin, and honestly doesn't seem to vibrate as much. Weird.

Full throttle: It's still too fast for me. I did chirp second though I've been practicing.

Here is Emery's entire review:

Finally.

I have had these cams sitting on the shelf now for a while and have been trying to find time to re-test them. Today I came to work and Austin took Shawna's keys from me and pulled the Evo right in. Wondering what he was doing I walked over and saw him with that set of cams in his hands, Smiled, and walked away! Its nice to know everyone that works here is on the same page. Well most of the time anyway.

These are the same cams David sent me to try a while back in the Ricer when it hit a wall and could not make anymore power. With out getting too far into it I just want to say they worked and worked well! We went from being stuck at about 700 whp to about 780 whp almost instantly. An 80 WHP gain is just nuts from a set of cams. We both thought they would make about 30 whp, Boy were we wrong.

For a while now we have been wanting to release these but thought it would be better to test them in a more mild setup that would appeal to a wider range of Evo's. With that said, what better car than Shawna's 600 whp 35r powered Evo 8? This car has made great numbers already almost effortlessly but seems to want more. With the Kelford 272 Cams nearing the End of what they are designed for It was a no brainer to use this car. The car previously has made a best of 601 whp and 475 torque bringing it down the 1/4 mile in 10.0 seconds @142 mph with full SSL interior and AC. The car is full weight plus.

So on to the test info. First I want to say I do not have all kinds of data. When we first built this car and tuned it on the old cams I had no idea we were going to test these so not much was saved. Both sets of cams we tuned to the cars full potential and pushed as far as I though was safe without making a mess.

So onto the dyno the car went. We turned down the boost and noticed right away the car had quite a bit more in it. At about 35 lbs the car was making about the same power as the previous cams at 41 psi. After a little more boost the car ended up with 642 whp and 523 torque. As we all know the low end will suffer anytime you put a bigger cam in the car but in this case it was not really That bad. The car lost about 200 rpm spool up but we were able to get almost all of that back with advancing the intake cam a few degrees.

On the dyno graph with our new cams vs. Kelfords 272's, both pulls were with the cam gears straight up.

Now that we have had the chance to use these in a more mild setup and see what happen, I am happy to release them.

Retail on these is going to be 705.00 and can only be purchased through us.

These cams will require the use of upgraded springs and retainers and are recommended by us for all cars at or above the 650 whp range. Please contact us with any questions you may have.

-Em

Wow those cams are B/A!

I was surprised how much the differently the car seemed to spool up with the cams but that top end power is incredible.

call them "girly 272 cams" or "shawna 272 cams" lol, after all, you made the decision to sell them after (re)testing on her car...... are they a 272 grind? impressive results

off topic question, but do the dyno rollers kill your hoosiers after a few pulls, or no?

Not at all. Actually have around 3k miles on them so far and not really wearing down. Maybe I got a bad set as I have still not even cut a good 60 ft on them.

It's starting to get cold here... and she's not going to see much more of the streets. It's almost time to say goodnight for winter hibernation.
