Vortex Generator Color Change

I picked up a flat black vortex generator and i don't like
how the paint job looks. I want to re paint it to the
Apex Silver because I have a Apex Silver Evo. Do I need to sand it
down first? What grit and any info on spray paint and clear coat
would be nice Thanks

yeah i think it'd be better off with trading with someone who already has a
apex silver VG. But still wanting to see if I can get close to the apex silver by
doing it myself

All I can say is be prepared to color-sand. I purchased one for the evo a while back, and did not like the look of the bare VG. I ended up having to sand (600), prime, wet-sand (1000 grit), paint, wet sand (1500 grit), clear coat, and wet sand (1500, 2000, 3000 all wet). The process takes a while, but its necessary if you're painting with cans as you'll get a ton of orange peel and it'll be very obvious on the flat portions of the VG. Good luck!

Why don't you just drop it by a body shop and have them paint match it for you? It can't possibly cost that much if it's off the car.

Regular paint then?

If you have a decent sized compressor with even a half-way decent gravity fed gun, you should be able to paint a VG. Plus, it's a small enough piece that you can afford to mess up on a few times without any big worry.

Just remember that 75% of a paint's quality is in the prep, so if you decide to do it yourself, prep the piece really well (i.e. tack cloth between coats, wet sanding, etc.) and you should have a good, quality paint job. If you're not that patient, any shop should be able to paint it for you.

I would go with this. It will match the color and be done.

^ I do want to do it myself but want the best color match with my AS Evo. I know I can wet sand it and prepare for spraying well but not sure which paint to go with. Im thinking about picking up one from the mitsu dealer?
