Sweet Sounding

Agreed. MB Quart's Q Series are the sweetest sounding speakers ever. Their Premium Series are a bit more affordable and still much better than most other brand's flagship speakers. MB Quarts tend to emphasize the highs, but the crossovers allow you to manually attenuate this.

If you're serious about audiophile quality sound, my suggestion is to get a dead-head receiver -- one with a copper chassis and without onboard amplification. Alpine's CDA-7998 is an excellent choice. It has too many disco features for my taste, but in amber mode it matches the EVO's dash nicely. I'll probably end up getting it myself.

Arguably the best sounding headunits of all time are Sony's CDX-C90 / XDP-4000X combo or Pioneer's DEX-P9 / DEQ-P9 combo. The optional digital preamp / equalizers give you an infinite configurability. You can get used ones on eBay pretty cheap these days. No MP3 playback from these, though.

I've got a full Alpine Type-R system .. 4 6.5" midrangers, 4 2" tweeters and 2 10" subwoofers, powered with a 1farad cap and a 1200watt amp. Sounds awesome and bumps excellent when i need it. This is being run from an Apline CD-Receiver CDA-7894 (CD/MP3/WMA/XM). The HU powers the component system whereas the amp powers the subs. Nice setup IMO. Not alot of people like the type-r systems but I love it.

well i would suggest for woofers are eclipse sw8122dvc or jl audio w7. alpine and rockford HE2 are also good, but i'd prefer these 2. amps i prefer alpine, eclpise, or jl. and speakers, nothing can beat MBquart(IMO). i also like boston acoustics.

For my money - the Nakamichi head unit is my favorite. No frills - just pure clean sounds. As far as speakers, the Focals are great. I went with the new Kevlars over the Utopia and they blend nicely in the car.
