Look up phone book fender pulling, there is a guy either on stance nation or stance works that did it on his 350Z and it came out nice.

^ seen that video. he sticks a bat between the tire and fender and gets someone to drive the car a few feet.

^^ yup that's the one. the heat gun is used to make the fender a lil more flexible and the paint so it doesn't crack. would need a friend that you trust to do that tho. lol

I've done the bat method on a buddy's e36. While it gets the job done its not easy to keep the paint in good shape and fender smooth. (it's a drift car so he didn't really care too much)

+1

Running a staggered setup with different size tires is not a good idea

I'm assuming this is your first AWD car. You're going to prematurely kill your diff runing a staggered setup (Thats why you don't really see that kind of thing on streetable evo's

Well as long as the overall diameter of the wheel is the same, I don't see how there would be an issue with it? The width being different shouldn't matter I don't think. Now it would of course if he wanted to run an 18 in the rear and a 17 in the front. or 18's front and rear with a different series sidewall. (IE: 35 in the front and 45 in the rear) Or am I missing something?
