Why? Because bulk CF and kevlar rolls are ***** cheap and all the companies that make all those pieces have to make molds, hand-lay everything, wait for hours for the bags to vac down and set. you're basically taking out the middle man by doing it yourself and probably spending 1/10 to 1/100 the cost of buying everything from someone like seibon while also making it stronger if you lay the fiber right and add graphene to the resin.

are you at worried about safety concerns building light weight panels that made not be structurally sound?

wut? You are aware that some cars are essentially 100% carbon fiber, outside of the motor, right? His chassis is still going to be steel, and provided he doesn't remove his quarter panel (which I admit will be idiotic), the car would be fine as long has he runs a cage with door bars if making cf doors

Yep, actually most supercars are full or almost full carbon fiber. One I can think right now is the 2011 ZR1

Do small pieces first.

I've done this a couple of years ago on my previous ride. I hated every minute of it. If you itch easily this project is not for you. I wore gloves, masks, etc. I could not stop itchin'. I wanted to punch everything dead or alive next to me. I hope your experience is better than mines. GL.

Guideline below:
1)Always Prep
2)Patience
3)Itch cream

From the fiberglass or something? I've never been itchy from any sort of fiberglass or composite work (including insulating houses and buildings), only react to red tattoo ink with cadmium in it

Yes I understand but fabricating carbon fiber parts without and crash testing yields no really proof of safety.

Just sayin' you can't just lay on two thin layers of CF and say it is safe because "supercars" are made of CF

I never said it was safe... and that's why you cage it. But you should make four layers of CF in the proper direction.

Hey thanks for the subscribers. As for haters ikeep hating.... This is for the guys interested not criticizing... As for safety carbon kevlar is being used on newer armored cars. Lightweight and esentially bullet proof and with I'm sure ill be fine mom...I heard smart cars are safe you should look into them .... If I get all the stuff before the weekend ill be starting on some of the small stuff this weekend to get the hang of it...worked a little with carbon kevlar and fiberglass...and the person house I'm doing it at my brothers...works with carbon fiber on helicopters and airplanes...so whatever I need help with he can help... And if it comes out not as good as I want ill scrap it and make a new one... Its not a price thing I'm worried about Its just a project thing... Plus i haven't seen any exteriour parts in carbon kevlar other than hoods....and most of it was just carbon fiber and colored fiberglass... But ill post pictures and stuff as I go please feel free to subscribe and hate you won't hurt my feelings

Ya, but it's not molded with epoxy-resin and it depends on the weave of kevlar on how well it will retard a bullet. I'm not 100% certain, but I would be willing to bet that the mil-spec weave for vests and helmets and **** is not available to civilians for purchase.

How could you even know that?

Maybe not mil-spec, but pretty much all kevlar material is strong as ****!!! Plus I don't think he's making a bullet proof car (which would be AWESOME!!!). I think he's just trying to say it'll be strong enough (to stop bullets, jk).

Interesting. Sounds ambitious. How do you intend to go about this process for proper fitment? Do you have an idea for a mold for each panel, or just one-off panels?

Last time I checked, the ZR1 isn't even close to full or "almost full" carbon body.
