What most people don't realize is that while hid bulbs TECHNICALLY can last thousands of hours, they loose a lot of brightness over time, idk what year car yours is but if it's getting to be 3 or 4 years old by now, your hids could have dimmed to the point of only being as bright as a halogen bulb, I would suggest you pick up a set of OEM replacement bulbs, it'll be a huge brightness upgrade for you.

From the research I've done on hid bulbs over the years, a quick breakdown of OEM brand bulbs go like this in brightness

OEM Philips 85122 bulbs (4300k) (3200 lumens per bulb)
Osram CBI Cool Blue Intense (5000k) (3400 lumens per bulb)
Philips Ultinon (6500k) (2400 lumens per bulb)

those numbers come from hid planet's site.

a halogen bulb will be under 2000 lumens per bulb even at their brightest. An aftermarket brand hid bulb will be better but will never last as long or be as bright as an OEM brand bulb. The CBIs are a hard to find bulb and are very expensive, but are the best bulbs on the market. Please do yourself a favor and spend the extra money on OEM hid bulbs, don't go aftermarket with such a nice setup.

If you can find them, the Philips 85122CM bulbs should be about the same color as the CBIs, they're a fantastic bulb as well, and are cheaper. These are what I want when I have an OEM hid setup. In the end, as Evoixjohn, to each their own, but OEM brand bulbs are always the best option. The Ultinons DO have a very nice color.

Tpatterson- thanks for the info, my evo's an 03, end of 2003, so ya its almost 8 years. bought it from a friend. its the original bulb and now its very dim, so much so that it annoys me. I'll be looking for some oem replacement or see if i can find the osrams.
