99 Mirage -----> Evo 5 AWD conversion
#62
I decided to work on the new Mirage for a couple hours after school tonight. I haven't posted any pics after picking up the white one. Needless to say, it was pretty beat up. It's been sitting for a loooonnnnggg time and there's dust/dirt in every crack and crevice. It even had vines growing and wrapping around parts lol.
Anyway, I got the trunk, wing, and tail lights installed and also tore apart the front end (minus the hood) before I decided to call it quits. The plan is to get the doors and front end installed this weekend. After that, I'll clay bar and buff the car, then get some PDR done. I'm hoping to have enough time to yank the motor the weekend after Thanksgiving.
Here's tonight's progress. Hopefully the weather stays decent so I can get some work done!!

The Evo 5 trunk is different than a Mirage trunk. I installed the Evo 5 tail lights, trunk with wing and trunk reflectors. I'm all for the wingless look (pictures of my Evo 8 are at the top of this page) but the Evo 4-6 (aka Mirage) can't pull it off too well. The idea is to make a legit Evo 5 out of this Mirage. Once I get it running, I'll start putting together a turbo setup shortly after. Most likely a 6262.

the mirage is gonna look great! just ordered me a evo 4 bumper. been thinking of doing a widebody evo 4 conversion. Can't wait to see how this project comes out and want to learn more about it so I can get mine started. Where did you buy the front clip btw?

His bumper was professionally widened to fit the Evo 5 fenders and sideskirts and he's not asking much at all.

Made some more progress this afternoon. I replaced all 4 doors, the hood, and driver side fender. I pulled all the door seals and sills when doing the doors and cleaned the **** out of the weatherstripping and jambs. It was pretty disgusting, I'm not going to lie. I didn't put the passenger fender on yet because I've got to do some work where the front passenger door hinge. It's a little tweaked where the lower hinge attaches so that's next on the list. After that, the rest of the front end will be going on and the motor will be coming out.
Here's the pics. Keep in mind that I haven't buffed the original faded paint yet so the panels should match up a little better once I do. PDR will also happen as soon as I have all the panels on so I can get them all taken care of at one time.

Not much progress to report today. Got the front end off of the clip and started transferring parts over to the Mirage. I got the oil cooler, washer reservoir (has 3 jets. 1 for front window, 1 for rear, and 1 for IC water spray), and AC fan mounted up. I'll put the factory power steering cooler and intercooler on in the next couple of days and that should take care of all parts behind the bumper.
