My '03 RR VIII
#31
Just throwing in an update. Car is almost done and will be going E85 soon as I'm moved back to OKC. Got pics to post when I get the WiFi working again. Wanted to try the new GSC R2 cams but the need for even better valve springs is gonna set me back so still going for Tomei 270s.

Will gets some more pics added soon. Car has been down for 2 weeks to install a Competition Clutch Stage 4, ACT MonoLoc, and going back to a steel flywheel. Installing the old water/alcohol kit mainly to keep everything running safe and consistent. VD #s are currently 511/410 at 31psi, 11.1:1 AFR, and 8* peak timing on 91.

The top mount looks pretty slick. Nice DIY build! I'm really curious about your Tomei Procams. How long have you had them installed, what cams were you running prior to installing them and what, if any additional mods were done along with the Tomei cams?
How was power output effected after the re-tune with the Tomeis? I'm stuck back and forth between the Procam 270s and the S2s for my relatively mild street setup which consists of a stock Evo 9 turbo, IC, LICP, 3" o2 housing/dp, TP, catback, Wally 255, ID1000s, intake, synapse DV, 3 port solenoid and ported FP cast manifold. BBK Lite or Full turbo to come. Fuel is 93 octane.

I just dropped them right in as I already had Manley valve springs, not sure on power difference but it definitely picked up an unexpected amount of midrange power that caught me off gaurd on the 1st drive. I was using Revolver cams previously and used the stock cams while selling them.

Late update. Made it to the track twice in May. Did a best of 12.1@123mph at 30psi. The Tephra launch map had me leaving the line at 1.5psi making some 1.9 sec 60' times plus had lots of misfiring from a rich tune. It was a last minute trip so had a baseline to start with. Setting the launch map to -4 degrees did a lot better on the 2nd trip making 14psi getting the times on the pic with 31psi max and still very rich tune, both left lane. I was gaining serious MPH on the back half with nothing special on the first half. Had a bog off the line on the 11.76 pass.
A few months later, I found a huge boost leak on top of a few minor ones in the form of a M8 bolt on the comp housing that I had removed to test fit the turbo on the PeakBoost top mount kit, had been running like that since January. I have a feeling this caused the poor 1/8th mile performance as the car goes hard in 4th gear. Hoping to at least get in the deep 11s at 130+mph pretty easily this month after pulling a point of fuel out and adding 2psi and go 10s before making any part changes to the car.

Installed an English Racing built Evo IX trans with VIII 3rd/4th and HKS 4.11 and made it back to the track for a few passes. Had misfire problems on launch that pretty much wasted first gear but gained nearly 7mph in the 1/8 from my best overall pass.
After changing plugs several times and trying another set of Toyota Denso coils before switching to Honda coils to only have the same high load misfires, I traced it to a clogged Speed Element filter I've used for 35k miles. I switched to speed density again and got it running pretty good this time. Installed a huge, 13" Green Performance filter and the misfires are now gone.
