Pictures of building my 2.4LR (lots of pictures)

In March my car spun 2 bearings so it was in for a rebuild and I decided to not only do it myself but build a 2.4LR. I completed it a couple months ago and everyone has actually been great since. I thought I'd upload pictures of the process.

Before getting it into the garage:

In the garage & pulling the engine:

Removing the trans:

Tearing down the engine:

Trip to the machine shop in the temp jeep:

SO FRESH:

FRESHFRESHFRESHFRESHFRESH:

Timing belt on: (This was actually really fun for some reason)

I'm not sure what the silver spirally thingy is but it seems important I hope it's in the right place:

It's finally back in the car. This was BY FAR the hardest/most frustrating part. It took my a few hours to get it in the mounts and I was exhausted afterward.

I also did a wire tuck:

Notice them cam gears spinning

Dirty boy. dirty dirty dirty boy:

First stop at the gas station:

And, as she sits as of yesterday:

Excellent!!! I love all the progress pictures. How're you liking it? Did you switch to a different turbo? Ive been day dreaming about doing a similar build with a 4G69 block that I have sitting in my garage.

How are you liking the 2.4? I was going to go that route after I detonated my 2.0, but ended up getting a pretty good deal on a freshly built 2.3 4g63. Don't have it in yet, still waiting to get the head work done and get my turbo kit together. Heard a lot of good things about street/DD strokers so hopefully you're enjoying it!

It's not fully tuned for power yet but so far I'm liking it quite a bit. There definitely seems to be more punch down low and even out of boost. The max boost I'm getting right now is about 15lbs. Everything else is stock except downpipe and LICP.

nice work, can pulling/installing the engine be done solo or do you need an extra set of hands?

if you drop it from the bottom you can pull it by yourself. Thats what I did. The only time when I needed 2nd person was the time I had to disconnect transmission from the Engine Block..

Probably to clean it. When I build my motor, I plan on taking every out of the front of the car for a thorough cleaning..

I took it off to make it easier for me to drop the engine with transmission still attached.

It maybe an overkill, and will increase the work time, but Im **** about how I work, and I like to have easy access to every part I work with. If this means take more stuff than I should, I will take it off. I have whole winter to work on this car, so there is no rush.

When I was replacing a transfercase on my brothers Evo, I had very hard time getting it out and back in, especially around the subframe.

When you have clear path from the bottom it insanely easy to remove the engine, and its a 1 man job.

It may not be for everyone but I plan to remove engine this way in the future.

and yes, I will be doing some cleaning as well.

I did their entire thing myself. Lifting the engine in and out was a pain but doable with one person. If you can get your car that high, dropping it from the bottom is likely easier.

to get the car that high, I started with 3ton jacks, then moved on to 6 ton, and finished up with 12ton. Who needs a lift lolz
