Speaker wire gauge?

What is a good gauge of speaker wire for my front and back speakers. (JL Audio XR-650 components and coaxials)

I was thinking 8 gauge or is that to much?

8 gauge is way overkill i think.. how many watts you plan on running through them, that should be the deciding factor. you can find some tables online by searching.

i'm using a 300/4 jl amp to power them, so 75 pure watts

Will you have a separate sub and amp ???
If so then you will probably set your 300/4 amp with a high pass filter, so that it cuts
off everything below 100hz, or there abouts.
In that case, 14 or even 16 guage wire will be plenty for the regular speakers.
It's the low frequencies that need the power, and by extension, the large guage.

If no separate sub, then you should use at least 12ga. to carry the power for the low freqs.

16 is the standard. 14 is almost overkill for components.

Sorry, I was misleading with my statement.
I was referring to the front and rear crossover settings on your amp.
You will want to set them to HP (high pass) and set the freq to something around 80-100hz.
Then your "smaller" regular speakers don't have to work hard to reproduce the low sounds.
You will be sending them to your sub.

16 is just perfect for speakers. Use 12-8 for subs
