Question Autometer Single Steering Column Pod

Anyone have this single steering column pod? If so does it obstruct the view of the mph gauge? I also notice that it is designed to hold the guage on the left side, when I have only been seeing people mount guages on the right side of the steering column. I would like to get this along with the omori boost gauge.

My boost gauge is mounted just like the second pic in the same mount. It works great. Why would you want to bulk up your steering column with that first mount? It seems like too much but I am a minimalist.

Well I would think the autometer single steering column pod would be less bulky rather than adding a seperate guage holder as is in the second photo. I would also assume with the first picture the guage would look more clean and sit lower. I'm just trying to verify this.

The second pic is Buschur gauge pod. It is identical to the Autometer pod.

If that piece replaces the top part of the column then it might be kind of neat but at first glance I thought it mounts on top of it. You might be right. Just go with the side of the column you would rather look at the gauge. They probably stick out the same.

I bought a Autometer Ultra-Lite mechanical boost gauge for now, it was cheap and it'll do the job. Plus it reads >20psi unlike a lot of cheaper gauges on the market.

As Promissed...

Here are the pics of the Autometer Single Steering Column Pod installed. The installation was pretty simple. It requires drilling your factory steering column cover, since the pod attaches to the steering column in the same way as the old school A-Pillar pods, using the push pin type holders. I should have done more research, I was under the impression the Autometer pod was a replacement for the upper plastic... live and learn. I'm not going to get into the wiring and boost source connection of the gauge.

Am I happy with it? Yes, the gauge placement is much better than the all too familiar A-Pillar placement. The only thing the gauge blocks is the speedo >140MPH. I don't venture there too often (read: at all) so I don't miss it. The Tach is completely unobstructed. I am 6'0" tall, so this is from my point of view. I would imagine the shorter you are, the more of the speedo gets blocked.

The only thing I am unhappy about is the clearance between the pod and the steering wheel. The last pic shows this, it is a very tight fit. When I first took the car out for a ride, I could hear the plastic pieces rubbing (very annoying) but after one night of driving, the rubbing is gone. I would also blame the noise on my placement of the push pins, as they are the highest point on the front of the pod. These pins can be installed anywhere, I put the two front ones on the front of the pod between the column and the steering wheel in an effort to hide them. Turns out it came around to bite me in the a$$. No biggy, it's quiet now, but at first I was upset with my mistake.

Well, I'll shuttup now and let the pictures speak for themselves, if you have any questions just ask or PM me.

why does it say on lancershop that it replaces the stock steering column cover...? is there a way to replace it, or does it have to pin on.

Sorry, there has got to be better execution in the fitment of the guage pod. I like the idea, but leaving exposed edges out like that just don't do the interior justice. Just my opinion, but I think the EVO interior deserves better than the pod pictured. No offense, I still like the overall placement of the guage.

I agree with you and it seems to look like the color is off.

I bought the RMR carbon fiber one- and it is really nice. I haven't installed it yet because I haven't got the gauge, but I did a test fit and it looks clean as hell Sure it's more expensive but I think you get what you pay for in this case. Not only is the pod CF, but the edges round down nicely to the side and it looks like it came with the car. It didn't seem to interfere too much with the gauge panel either. So you may want to look into that one as possible option. Lancershop carries them too (in both 52 and 60 mm). Again- I have only just placed it on the column to get a general idea- but I am very happy with it. I would post some pics of it installed but you'd have to wait until I get back home in November- can you wait that long ?

hey, do you think if you drilled in teh stock mounting points you could get the lancershop / gauge works pod to REPLACE the stock steering column piece, or is it just not possible.
