Question

I'm going with the black and yellow theme for my evo. I was wondering how you painted the emblem. I've already got the silver UK badge too, so I was thinking I could just paint them both with a high gloss paint? Did you leave it on the car...it would take a pretty nice masking job not to mess up your car's paint.

I'm not sure how well you could paint the Evolution VIII badge as it's kind of flexible and spongy. As for the Mitsubishi emblem: it's a *****. You have to get the masking tape underneath the badge as there is a gap between the edge of the adhesive material and the underside of the badge. I started using 1/8" masking tape but ended up just using 1/2" tape and cutting it at the correct angle at the end. Then, of course, you have to mask the whole back end of the car & wing to prevent overspray. Took me a good hour or so just to mask the damn thing! To paint it I sanded it down and used Krylon plastic paint. I'm not sure how well it will stand up so I can't say if it's the best thing to use right now. I think if you primer/normal paint it will flake off. The Krylon hasn't started to flake off yet but I would imagine it's only a matter of time. Also, after painting there was a layer of paint between the badge & masking tape so I had to cut round the badge before I could pull the tape.

I'm thinking of getting a mate of mine to make a vinyl overlay for me. If I go that route then he will have the template made and would be able to supply them in any colour required, even the colour changing colour and carbon fiber look.

The wingless look is starting to grow on me. Great job on the blackened tails, btw.
