Brokwn wheel lock key.. suggestions?

this sucks.. I was going to take of my wheel lock keys to trade for some better condition rims and winter tires for $40...
the damn wheel lock key broke into pieces... the actually key insert broke off the socket part..
I just hammered the two pieces back together and put some red loctite and will allow a lot of time for that to dry.

In the meantime any ideas besides hammering on sockets and buying a new lock key to take off these pos locks??

Try one of those Gator Grip (tm) sockets available at most hardware shops. They seem to do a decent job at getting tough wheel locks off.

if you go to the auto store they have a wheel key remover which isjust a big socket with reverse thread inside so as you loosen the bolt its actually tightening itslef onto the key to grip it better then just keep spinning and it will eventually come off like a regualar bolt

When I had a broken wheel lock I took it to a Discount Tire and they were able to take off the lock. i suggest you try them first before spending money on tools you might not really need, like i did.

You can also hammer on a 3/4" 12point socket (6 point doesn't work) and take it off with a socket wrench.

I'm going to have to try this. The dealership that I bought my car from did not provide me with a key to the existing wheel locks on my car.

I had the same problem and couldn't get the lock off. I took mine to a tire place and they got it off with no problems.

I eventually had to get mine cut off with a weld cutter.

i put up a thread like this last week, i used a 12point 19mm socket and hammered it on... they came right out, except it would take 10min to get the lug out of the socket to do the next one!!
