HELP - My TME Sick again!
Since I got my TME last august all the problems I've been having were with the Wheels. This time all of a sudden the front left wheel started giving a "Cluck Cluck" noise. I checked it out and there's nothing wrong from the outside of the suspensions nor brakes. The noise comes only on bumpy roads when making abrupt turns (to the right). And on smooth tarmac the noise is not there at all. Hence I guess I could rule out the possibilty of a problem with the C-V joint or the steering rack. Has anyone had this problem? I am too paranoid to drive the car with the noise so till I diagnose the actual problem guess I will be driving my ol' 1300cc toyota.

These clunking noises are something which come with the Evo. I've had the same kind of noises but from the right. It could be anything from the top mount to the track-rod end, with the first one being the most likely culprit.

Mike, So should I try adjusting the top mount from under the hood? and is it okay to ignore the noise and drive the car? How did you get rid of the noise in yours?

Yep, that's the topmount. Mine was changed and after that I went for the Ralliart topmount in conjinction with my proflex suspension anyway. No problems with that. You can try tightening the nuts, but I doubt it'll help cause if the noise comes from the topmount it's usually broken in some way or has too much play. If it's the topmount I don't think it's really dangerous to drive the car. The best way to check would be to fit a new one or try a friends topmount and see what happens.

Yes, it can happen, you mostly can't actually see anything broken, but with me the sound just got worse and was gone as soon as it had a new top mount. I forgot about another possible fault that could make that sound, which would be worn/broken bushes.

have seen it reported that you need, occasionally, to prise off the caps and apply grease to top mount and that can cure the problem.
i spose the long term cure would be to fit pillowball mounts.

hehehe, with pillowball mounts you'll only have more noise and the danger of the mounting point bending with hard hits to the suspension. I'd go for the Ralliart heavy-duty top mounts.

Problem Found in the Front Wheel!
I got an Evo Techy to checkout the Front Left Hub assembly and he foundout that the noise was coming from a Bearing in the front assembly. You can't buy the bearing alone so have to order the Front Hub Assembly unit which is about 83 UK.

yup replacing it fixed the the problem. I luckily found a used Evo 5 Wheel Hub for about $30 which was identical to what was in TME. The original is about $65.
I am back on the Streets!! Yupppeeeee!!
