Kumho V710s in 245/45WR17... Neal?

Anyone know why they're always backordered at the Tire Rack, when they'll be available, or another supplier?

I tried to order a set starting over a month ago. They started out as "Delivery the end of March", then "Delivery the end of April" and now "Backorder".

When I talked with Neal a couple of weeks ago, Kumho hadn't even made any yet, so he guessed they were *at least *6-8 weeks out.

I ended up getting some standard Victoracers in 255/40/17. The did well enough for second place in ESP/NS1 at this weekend's NWR SCCA autocross.

I really, really wanted to try a set of the V710's, but it just wasn't to be. Maybe next year when I get the coilovers and step up to the 275's they'll be in stock.

Not sure what the deal is with those tires. Beginning of the race season and Kumho put them on the backburner. There was a delay in production, and as of this month there still weren't any on the water headed over here. We work off info given to us by the vendors, and right now Kumho isn't saying much. Wish I had additional/more accurate info for you guys but I don't

OK, thanks Neal, that's good to know.

So...given that the Hoosiers (even A3S05) aren't lasting very long for most folks, and V710s and Tech Rs aren't available in good Evo sizes, what do you recommend? VictoRacers? Some other shaved R-compounds?

Victoracers will last a bit longer than the 710's or Hoosiers. The other two are some of the quicker wearing of the competition tires. Michelins Pilot Sport Cup, Yoko A032R, and Pirelli P-Zero Corsa are the longer lasting ones and could be driven to the track if needed. Remember, you can have us heat cycle the tires as well, that will help prolong their life.

What about the Ecsta V700 in terms of wear and performance? I like the idea that you can mount the tires so that the worn outside edge can be reversed to the inside.

Neil:

1. do they have to be shaved for autocross?

2. how is your availablilty?

Per Kumho:

Kumho advises that the ECSTA V700 DOT-legal competition radial must be shaved prior to use in dry conditions. If this tire is not shaved, excessive wear may occur causing the tire to wear to the cords prematurely in a localized area.

Tire heat cycling will not prevent the excessive localized wear of full tread depth tires but will continue to enhance tire consistency and wear on shaved tires.

The ECSTA V700 should only be used at full tread depth (6/32") for wet track and wet autocross use
.

Currently on B/O with no ETA in size 245/40-17
