Yokohama/HKS Kansai did a test with the A046,Neova and the A048 on a mildly tuned EVO. Here are the track times:

A048 1'24"649
Neova 1'26"977
A046 1'28"164

Number 8 had Toyos on his car before the Neovas. So far he said the Neovas grip better. We're autocrossing tomorrow, so he should have a better idea of how the tires compare. I'll ask him to post his thoughts after the autocross.

Tire Wear?

Anybody hear numbers as far as tire wear for the Neovas? How do they compare to
the AO46s in terms of life.

I looked on Tire Rack and they don't have those numbers yet.

Well, PVD04 and I went to the local autocross Sunday. His 2nd time autocrossing and he pulled off like the 3rd fastest street tire time(Advan A046 - stock tire) around a 59 sec. time. Basically, even though I've had more experience, he kicked my butt. I DNF'd(disqualified all day long). However, we made some fun runs at the end of the day, and I broke into the 58 sec . range. I'm on the new Neovas. Although my driving sucked, the Neovas were phenomenal. The Toyos weere great, but I like these more. Plus, the ride quality is unbelievable. I highly recommend these tires. To quote Neil at the tire rack. "You won't be dissappointed".

I believe the tread wear is 160 on the stock Advans and 180 on the Neovas.

Yup, Neova in at 180, OEM Advan 160. Not a night a day difference really.

I can say that after driving Number 8's car and seeing how well it performed at the autocross, my next set of tires will be Neovas. The ride is noticably more forgiving and the performance is great.

the toyo's are actually reported to grip better then our stock advans... the only problem is you have to shave them if you want that amazing dry traction and response.

See if you have to shave them to get better performance that doesn't make alot of sense to me. If your running the tires as street/track tires you sure as hell don't want to shave off the little treadlife you have in the first place. If your looking for all out track tires I would get the A032.

Any R-compond tire will require *heat* to get grip. Not the kind of grip that an autocross generates - a couple of laps at 7/10's on the track at least.

That said, the RA-1's get great grip on the street for an R tire. They also get stickier the longer they run. "Their fastest lap is the one before they cord" is the consensus. They are the ultimate arrive-and-drive tire for the track, rain or shine,. If you don't want to lug tires to the track and be prepared for everything except snow (And yes it snowed at a recent DE at Mid-OH - they were making 3' snowmen in the paddock) Toyo RA-1's are foolproof.

For heavy cars like ours, the Michelin Pilot Sport Cups (MPSC) have just the ultimate grip. Just absolutely *glue*. But they are terrible in standing wet (when slightly worn) or when cold. If you know it's gonna be hot and dry, MPSC's are it.

All this - these are *track* tires (R-compond) that are DOT legal. There is a growing trend though, that high performance street tire (Neova's) are approaching the stickiness of the R's while still preserving cold/wet performance and street friendly.

For the definitive guide for R's: http://forums.rennlist.com/rennforum...d.php?t=202964
