Testing: Apexi N1 Damper ExV (Expert Type V)

I'm going to be testing out a new coilover system that Apexi just put out on the market.

Apexi N1 Damper ExV (Expert Type V)
Specs:
32 way dampening adjustable
Dual-height adjustable
Front camber-adjustable upper mounts
8kg / 448lb front springs
6kg / 336lb rear springs
Aluminum construction (these feel VERY light compared to my old JICS)

These are a more street slated coilover system but are supposed to be decent on track. I'll probably move up to ohlins or something like that eventually but I wanted to test out some street suspension coilover systems for the evo first. My last car had a really harsh ride and I'm trying to move away from that in the evo but still have good performance.

As far as I know, I think this is the first set available for the evo from Apexi. I'd like to thank once again Ty at Road Race Engineering for getting this set to me to test.

These are sitting in my garage waiting to go on the car so I will add to this review as I put them through the motions. So far from just looking at them, they look to be constructed very well, seem very light, good build quality, and anodized red with aluminum construction which is HUGE plus for me since my old JICs got destroyed from winter driving.

Look for a complete review in the upcoming months (street, track, etc)

Here are some photos:

Those look very nice. APEX'i also makes very good suspension, it's too bad they are not track oriented. Please let us know how they work!

I ran the last apex-i n1 v-types on my wrx, i HATED them, they were the worst coilovers i've ever rode on in my life, I'm now running Cusco Zero2R's on my EVO, and i couldn't be happier, goodluck with those, maybe the new ones will be more friendly.

truthfully im not sure what the springrates were on them.......but i think whatever they were they were way to hard....to be working with the dampening they were 32 way adjustable....the ride was like a rock no matter what i did........i felt every
damn grain of dust on the road i went over........it was a miserable experience of coilovers..i was blaming it on the pillowball mounts the wholetime....i was gonna use springs on the evo becuase i was afrraid to go back and try C/O's again....but, i was wrong i run the cusco's and man the pillowballs have nothing to with it, a nice spring rate and good dampening charactersitics make for an awesome ride......but the ones you are getting are the newer ones...maybe there are differences..and im sure the ones i had would have been great at the track, but for everyday driving, NOWAY!

Did your old coilovers have the ride-height adjustable separately from the spring preload adjustment? These coilovers appear to do just that, so I would imagine you could adjust the spring preload to whatever you like without having to re-adjust the ride-height. The single ride-height-and-spring-rate adjustable ones are not really the way to go. Aside from not being able to properly corner-weight your car while keeping the same suspension characteristics all around, it makes it so that the lower you go, the stiffer the ride, even if it was stiff enough to begin with, so I'm guessing that's how yours were. If not, man I would like to know what spring rate they are too! I can't imagine something being that much more harsh than my stock suspension. The thing beats me to death sometimes with just the stockers, although in its old age it's beginning to show signs of suspension compliance lol.

please review these!

Is there a stock ride height setting? I'd like to be able to drive my car in the winter...
