if you're looking for a good compromise, i've heard nothing but good things about the nokian hakka rsi's, kinda expensive though and tirerack doesn't carry them. i don't totally get why you would return the ws-50s or why you think the lm won't do. it's winter, you're supposed to drive slower and not push the limits of cornering of your car

my search is over...

I just ordered the Blizzak WS-50s from Tirerack a couple of minutes ago. Should have them installed on Friday just in time for the snow on Sunday . Can't wait to try these babies out.

I found a local shop here in MA that will do the install. They were trying to sell me the Nokian RSi tyres but the price was more then the Blizzaks so I didn't bite.

I found a really good deal on a used set of michelin pilot alpin2's in 225/45/17. They only had about 1000 miles on them and the guy only wanted $300 for them(sold his car and had no use for them anymore). Even though this is my first set of snow tires on the evo I couldnt be any more happy with them. Snow traction is great, and I actually dont mind them in the dry. Side wall is stiff and it has decent grip for a winter tire allowing me to still drive semi aggresivley. Im not sure how good they are in the snow compared to the ws-50, but they have more than enough traction in the snow for my needs. IMO they are an excellent tire, and I would probably buy them again.

Has anyone had any experience with Michelin X-ICE tires?

I can get them a little cheaper than the WS-50's.

If anybody remembers the snowstorm last winter in the tri-state area (philly, jersey.) Then you'll remember hell freezing over. That day I drove on bfgoodrich kdws (dry + wet + snow) zr tires :O. I had full traction/braking capabilities. The snow dump trucks out that morning were like "WTF is he doing on the road?" That morning we had a snow emergency where no passenger vehicles were allowed to be driving around, but those tires served me well. They also have awesome dry traction and durability for those wanting some late fall/early spring useage as well.

Any decent set of all-seasons should do well in snow.
