06 MR stock spring rates
#33
Finally got a chance to measure the stock Evo IX MR spring rates. The springs were tested on an Instron 20,000 lb servohydraulic test frame with a calibrated load cell. The front springs were compressed a total of 6 inches. The rears were compressed 5 inches. The rates were very consistent over the entire range of travel. Both the front and rear springs are linear rate springs (with a tiny bit of non-linearity at initial take up). The rates are:
front: ~200-205 lbs/in
rear: ~265-275 lbs/in
Interesting to compare with Swift Sport Mach springs. They claim a progressive spring rate:
front: 179->269 lbs/in (10% softer than stock progressing to 30% stiffer)
rear: 157->314 lbs/in (40% softer than stock progressing to 16% stiffer)
Anyone want to send me some springs to measure?

its probably a good ratio to keep in mind when experimenting with springs for coilovers.
