big rotors?

Just curious why arent there many people running big rotors(355mm) on the stock calipers? All you have to do is get a custom made bracket to fit the bigger diameter rotors. When my new wheels get here next month I was thinking of getting 2 piece Endless slotted rotors 345 or 355mm with custom made brackets....you think thats a good idea?

No love for Endless around here I think it's a good idea to save some cash. Just get your rotors, brackets and a new set of pads and hoses.

yea I know but they only sell the kit which is like 2K. I just need rotors and if I go endless rotors it will be much cheaper than the racing brake kit.

I cant speak for the endless kit on my evo as my evo has the stock brake system still, I do have a big brake rotor upgrade kit on my GSX. It bumped the rotor diamater up by about an inch or so on all four corners. I've had the kit for a few years now with maybe 10k miles on them and they work fine. It does successfully upgrade brake torque but I havent taken the car road racing so I cannot comment on its tracking ability. Hope that helps.

Most folks think Endless is too expensive. But, to me they aren't really excessive considering they have the most experience racing EVO's. Plus you have a nice selection of sizes for their 2 piece rotors.

I think you should go for it. Heat capacity is the problem with tracked evo so why bother spending big money on calipers? If you can get brackets made, do it...then let us know how to do the same!

No offense, but it's just rotors not some form of Evo specific black magic.

Yeh, but a few companies have come out with brakes for our cars that had production or fitting problems.

once my new wheels come I need to measure to see if I should go 345 or 355mm. I have two friends that did this mod with their Evo 8. Both use 355mm 2 piece crossed drilled rotors on stock brembo calipers with custom made brackets... one guy couldnt stop bragging on how much better it was compared to the stock rotors.. Whats even funnier is both of them have made in Taiwan rotors.. lol But it does look nice and fills out the whole wheel

There's a few really good reasons that this hasn't been done... and why it's not suggested.

1) The factory caliper and pad are desgned for a specific size disc. 320mm x 32mm

- The pad has a specific radius and anullus to match the factory disc.

First...the radius will not match a larger disc.
Second...the anullus will more than likely not be correct either.
The anullus is the height of the swept area on the disc.

2) The factory Brembo/EVO caliper is Side Mount (lug mount) and designed to center the caliper to a 320mm disc.

-It is not possible to create a braket that will only raise the caliper the 17.5mm needed to accomodate a 355mm disc.
***this is hard to explain without a diagram so you'll have to take my word for it***

I have seen manufacturers in the past make these type of kit's for sliding calipers. While it sounds like a novel idea...affordable and supposedly "performance enhancing"...they are mostly created for looks. The small bit of performance gained by adding the larger disc is dramatically out weighed by the safety issues involved. At the very least you are setting your self up for wierd pad wear, or squeal, or pedal feel issues.

i don't know why but jdm companies have hardly developed their braking technologoy at all. if you look at hte top fo the line project mu rotors they're just typical posts inside, no vanes no directional... just a 'special' rotor compound that doesn't crack. yay.

endless is probably very much the same with only typical vaning. if you look at the pinacle of motorsports it's all about ap, brembo and such companies that employ proprietary vaning technology with aerofoil leading edge fins and air pumping low pressure zones on the outter edge of the rotor.
