18x8 vs 18x9? Any performance difference?

First, did a search. Couldn't find the answer.

Is there a huge performance difference between the 2?

I am initially leaning towards the 18x8 to reduce the chance of any rubbing, having to fender roll etc. I have seen some 18x9 that look plain ugly (too wide).

I am getting the work XD-9 for reference. Perhaps if you guys can post 18X8, 18X9 and show me what you guys have. Thanks for helping me make some decisions!

You have more weight which is a negative as far as unsprung mass, BUT you have better turn in with wider track. You would have to try really hard to make a 18x9 with a 255 or 245 rub (read really low offset). 9" wheel in a 30 or 31mm offset FTW.

if this is strictly for street then go for the 18x8, less weight and its plenty wide to accomadate stock sized tires.

OTOH if you plan to run this car on the track where you want the widest rubber possible, go for the 18x9. It gives you more options when it comes to tread width. 255 18s should be safe for stock fender wells, any wider and youll be playing with the fender well.
