Racing Brake Pads...

Light track use is right for the Ferodo DS2500's. I thought they were the best pad ever for two years. I went from 2500's last year to 3000's (bad pad transfer problems) and I'm running PFC-01's right now, but they aren't a street/track pad. There are several really good pad threads in the Motorsports forum.

You shouldn't be shopping for a street/track pad. It only takes 15 minutes to swap pads. If you are going to track the car get a track only pad.
Carbotech pads (XP10/XP12) own.

Its really a toss up.....do you want to have the absolute best stopping power so you can own exotics at the track....or do you want a pad that will last a little longer and not stop as good.
The carbotech XP12 last me about 4 hours of brake intensive high speed lapping (multiple 120-40 stops with minimal cool down). Running a cheaper pad you might get another hour of session time.
Instead of saving $50 on pads, I perfer to spend the extra money on XP12s and in return I get harness bruises from hard braking!

I went with Porterfield R4S's for now.
This year is more going to be just a hand full of lapping days. Next year, I may go with something a little more aggressive.
Basically since it's already so late in the season, I'm just going to be shaking it down, for bigger stuff next year.

I ran the R4S and didn't really care for them at all. They are more of an autocross (low speed) pad than a open track pad. On my previous car I ran the R4 pad. It had better stopping power but still didn't come close to the XPs.
I run a street pad on the street and a true race pad on the track.

I run the Hawk HPS and I absolutely abuse them on the track. I did four 30 minute sessions with only 30 minutes inbetween and experienced no brake fade at all. This was on the 4th of July in Texas, temps were in the mid 90s. My rotors were glowing because they were so hot and no issues whatsoever. I am running Motul fluid and stock rotors.

The Hawk HPS is a street pad. HPS=HIGH PERFORMANCE STREET
I use them as my daily driver pad. Nice and quiet and good stopping power. Not a track pad though, even Hawk will tell you that.

I wouldn't use the R4S pads on the track AT ALL. The set that I tried wore through to the backing plates during ONE lapping day at Road America. I was lucky that I didn't score up my rotors badly. They didn't fade, just wore like crazy at higher track temperatures. The stock pads worked much better. Of course, YMMV.
I use the Ferodo 2500 pads now. They don't fade significantly with cut-out backing shields, the Mitsu brake cooling air guides, and good braking technique. I use them without the anti-squeal plates and get some low speed noise, but it's tolerable. The cost is also tolerable compared to other pads.
